Mo pneels!

I was in a foul mood today.  Nothing quite like meditating on pinky cheeks to lift the spirits.

Benevolent space cat

I painted this for the child.  She seems to like it, and even called it "Lolly."

Art from the Ungame

More art from my dearly departed game.  I can't pretend it doesn't hurt (ouch,) but at least you can see it now.

Sketches!

The project I've been working on for the past 9 months has just been canned.  Here are some sketches I'm not going to have the chance to finish.

Anthropus troops

I think these were the last pieces I did for DoA.

Rejected Art!

Here's some art from unlaunched features on DoA.

Personal stuff

Well... not personal so much as trying to paint fast at night and get better at faces.    I'm trying to not pay so much attention to what I'm doing/ be less critical of the process.

I spent the first two months of this year helping out another project at Kabam (all pictures copyright them 2012) to explore some character designs, in an attempt to make the game more appealing to a diverse audience.  Well... minus the news anchor, who is just supposed to be a shallow cheeseball.  They decided to take the game in a totally different direction, but this was fun.

Fangtooth!

Here is the (Copyrighted Kabam 2011) fangtooth. I like him.

The best and worst part about actually having your concept art go directly up on Facebook is reading uncensored user feedback. I would say that most people don't really care either way what the art looks like, or they say nice things, - but sometimes they get really, really angry if they don't like it. Some of my favorite recent comments "Why are you charging money for this ugly piece of s***" And "Looks like a toddler drew it." I would like to meet this toddler.

Granite Ogre

Here are some sketches and an image of our "granite ogre" troop. This Copyrighted by Kabam 2011 Granite Ogre.

Curses!

Here's some stuff from our "curses" feature.

Here's some battle report art - I think from... August 2010 maybe?
(Copyright DoA/Kabam 2010)
Here are some sketches for the Amazon.

DoA Art-a-rama

Primus Character designs - first two are the first round, painted in May 2010, during our initial developmoent sprint, which was insanely rushed. The third guy is a little more human - probably a little too human for the race but hey, I like his face.

Amazon Character Designs - the first and third are from the initial development sprint, and the one in the middle a few months later.

Play the game heeahh (all images belong to and are copyrighted by Kabam. Not me. Definitely not you.)

So, I haven't posted anything in - surprise, since about the time I became pregnant. It's too much work for a lazy person such as myself to cope with the many, many inconveniences of pregnancy, manage an art team through an acquisition and period of insane growth, AND take the extra time to upload things to a blog. (while still eating and cleaning myself) But now that my due date has come and gone (yes, still pregnant) and I have nothing to do but sit around and wait for my whole life to change, I bring you approx. one year of selected art from DoA. I'm hoping to be able to make more personal stuff in the next few months until I go back to work - I suspect that will depend on what KIND of baby I get. If I get the screamy, yelly kind, probably not.

happy halloween!

It's been a while, but I still help out on greenspot from time to time. Here's one of the Halloween backgrounds. (Copyright wonderhill 2010 all rights reserved)

There Dragons Be!

Excuse me for a moment. All IMAGES IN THIS POST ARE COPYRIGHT WONDHERHILL 2010. You can't repost them or use them.

Finally, finally. The game, the endless game has launched. It's not over, but at least now other human beings can see it. During these last few months I have fulfilled a dream - a dream in which I was an artist who drew armor clad videogame characters and dragons. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am a secret dork.

Also, as lead, I had to design the look of the UI. I kept hoping that a magic fairy in the form of a UI artist might appear out of nowhere and do it for me. Unfortunately, we don't have any of those, so I had to crack at it myself. I think it looks okay... but it was my first time so I'm sure in a year I'll find it embarrassing.
You can check out the UI and spend hours and hours waiting for things to finish building over on facebook here.
Thanks to all the Whill artists for your awesome animation, art, feedback, ideas and hard work!
Thanks especially to Rosie, the other concept artist on this project. You're the best!

If you'd like to see more, check back later. I'll post more art in the coming days.

TIny Windows

I am so done with this one. Millions of tiny windows are not good for my brain. Next stop, APE!
